Club Updates – September 2021

24 August 2021

Dear Members,

Good evening.

The ONE°15 Estuari Sports Centre will re-open in phases from 1st September 2021 onwards for fully vaccinated members and their guest on a pre-booking, advanced reservation basis only.

The decision to re-open the Sports Centre in phases was not an easy one to make and was done following ongoing consultations with Federal, State and local authorities as well as governing sports bodies regarding SOPs for Phase 1 States such as Johor.

Prior to the phased re-opening and to help ensure your safety and comfort, the Sports Centre will undergo a complete cleaning as well as re-application of a nano germ-killing protective coating in all touch points (doors, counters, tables, showers, lockers, toilets, sinks, equipment, etc.) that is good for up to 180 days.

All front line staff will wear face masks and face shields at all times. Staff will be RTK tested twice monthly, be subject to daily temperature screening, and as fast as humanly possible, become fully vaccinated via public and private enterprise. Members and their guests will be required to wear face masks at all times (except while playing sports).

Operational hours have been revised taken into account the demand, government SOPs, and the phased re-opening. The revised operational hours will be in force until such time as the government allows more sports and recreational amenities to operate within the Club.

Monday – Saturday 7.00 am – 10.00 pm 7.00 am – 8.00 pm

Club News

Did you know?

In Malaysia, fatal water-related accidents average between 650 to 700 per year for the past 10 years, without any signs of decreasing. Unfortunately compared to Australia, a country with a similar population, Malaysia has more than double the incidents per year. With proper water safety education and swimming lessons from a young age under professional supervision, these incidents could be avoided. Here at ONE°15 Estuari Sports Centre, we believe in the importance of swimming, not only as a sport but as a life skill.

Meet our Coaches

MR. THOMAS LEE – WAHOO™ Swim School

Mr. Thomas grew up being actively involved in the world of aquatics and in his 20 years of competitive career. As a former national water polo player himself, Thomas’ love for aquatics and water polo knows no boundaries where for the past 10 years (and counting), he is still competitively involved and participates in local & international Masters Championships.

Before TAD Sports Lab and WAHOO™ Swim School was founded, Thomas has been actively involved in aquatic sports development on a voluntary basis. Thomas sees that in order to improve the quality of aquatic sports in Malaysia, it all has to begin with the right education and with a strong mindset required for sports. The best strategy is to start from grassroot development, which was built upon the motto of WAHOO™ Swim School is “Swim Like A Champ”.

WAHOO™ is proud to have produced more than 3000 grassroot swimmers, 400 competitive swimmers, 50 state swimmers, 20 national swimmers, and have broken more than 30 state and national records in just 4 years! These swimmers are not only able to excel in the pool but they are able to produce great results and most importantly display true characteristics of a sportsman in the school too. We are proud to have his swim academy on board with us to further carry the vision and groom future athletes at our very own ONE°15 Estuari Sports Centre.

Tip of the month – Breathing

It is common to feel short of breath during exercise. When your muscles activate, they require more oxygen than when you are resting. However, faster breathing does not always result in more oxygen intake. It is very easy to forget to take deep breaths when exercising which can lead to feeling short of breath, tired, and ultimately disrupt your performance.

Yoga is a great way to practice mindful breathing under pressure. Join our virtual Morning Flow Yoga programme to find out more.

Club News

Tip of the Month

A hot, steamy shower may feel good on your muscles after working out, but a cold shower may actually be the scientifically-backed method of rinsing off your sweat. A 2013 medical survey indicated that the effects of soaking in cold water after a training session provided a clear recovery benefit, although it may lead to lower gains in muscle strength and mass. But hopping right into a cold shower after a hot workout might cause muscles to stiffen, or your heart rate to speed up. For best results, start your shower at a lukewarm or moderately warm temperature after cooling down your body with stretches and slow exercise.

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR – Shahrin Hashim (PETIT OUTDOOR)

Our new Climbing Instructor, Mr Shahrin has over 20 years of experience in the climbing field and has multiple accolades in his respective career. He has not only been honoured with the 2012 National Outdoor Award for Sport and Wall Climbing from the Malaysian National Outdoor Association, but also with a Special Appreciation Award for his contributions to the development of sport climbing in Malaysia from Selangor Mountaineering Association. We are proud to have him on board as our official climbing instructor for ONE15 Estuari Sports Centre and excited to provide the best programmes to our Members and family!

Benefits of Rock Climbing

3 benefits of Rock Climbing from Instructor Shahrin:

  1. Rock Climbing burns off some serious calories. In a typical 1-hour rock climbing session you burn off almost twice the amount of calories you would burn in a typical 1-hour jogging session.
  2. Rock Climbing improves problem-solving skills. This is especially true for children. Every time you are trying to climb that route, not only are you physically pushing yourself to get to the top, but you are also mentally trying to solve a series of “problems” to find the most efficient way to “scend” the route.
  3. Rock Climbing improves balance. Balance is everything in Rock Climbing. Without the right centre of gravity, you are going to struggle to shift your weight to the right position and climb the more difficult problems.

TIP OF THE MONTH – STRETCHING

Dynamic stretching is a form of stretching that involves active movements before training or game to warm up and to introduce blood flow into muscle fibres. On the other hand, static stretching consist of passive holds, making it ideal for cool downs and recovery of muscles.

Hence, it is crucial to do dynamic stretching BEFORE you play, and static stretching AFTER you play to reduce the risk of injuries.

BENEFITS OF SHIATSU THERAPY

Shiatsu is used to treat a wide range of chronic conditions, such as headaches, digestive disorders, fatigue, insomnia, stress, anxiety, and musculoskeletal pain, including lower back, neck, and joint pain. It is a well-known form of traditional Japanese massage using “finger pressure” which therapist apply on various acupressure points on the body to promote the flow of “chi” and balance the body’s energy. This holistic healing method helps balance energy flows and consequently helps the process of self-healing.

60-mins Shiatsu therapy available at Spa RAEL from RM144+ (Member). Book your slot today.

Mr. Ibrahim Gul was formerly the National Elite Head Coach of Singapore Squash and is now running our Club’s squash academy, Multiball Sports. Under his tenure, Singapore lifted the title of South East Asian champion and won multiple gold medals at SEA Games. Mr. Gul has also groomed numerous top ranking junior players in Singapore and Malaysia.

DID YOU KNOW?

When choosing a badminton racquet, the grip is crucial. Small grips are best for small hands and large grips for large hands. When holding the racket, it is important to have a relaxed grip and not to grasp tightly. Having a flexible wrist will help you to perfect both your forehand and backhand shots. Reach out to our badminton academy for more information on how to take your game to the next level.

Group badminton instructional programs start from RM28+ (per Member). Enquire with our Front Desk for more details.
