ONE°15 Eco Month: Building Awareness on Ocean Conservation

ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove turns 15 in September this year and we are celebrating our anniversary by dedicating this month to raising awareness for ocean conservation. The ONE°15 Eco Month seeks to engage, educate and empower our Members and guests on how they can be an active guardian of the environment.

One of the key highlights of the ONE°15 Eco Month is an exhibition spread across various locations of the clubhouse including the main lobby, outside LATITUDE Bistro and WOK°15 Kitchen. The exhibition panels informs Members of ONE°15 eco-initiatives such as the ONE°15 Coral Garden, introduces our ONE°15 Eco Advisors, Dr Toh Tai Chong and Sam Shu Qin, and narrates the threats faced by sharks, stingrays and corals through digestible, bite-size information accompanied by creative illustrations.

Much thought has been put into crafting the content and artwork of these exhibition panels to ensure that they bring forth the importance of ocean conservation. Information on how these species have been impacted over the years, how we can protect them and fun facts are amongst what was being shared on the panels. Armed with these information, Members and guests are more proficient in their knowledge of protecting our waters and coastlines.

The highly-anticipated Coral Garden Tour led by our Eco Advisor, Sam Shu Qin and her colleague Lionel on 11 September was met with enthusiastic participants. Members learned about the various types of coral that can be found in our marina, namely the brain coral, disc coral, stick coral and many more. Some of our Members were trying to identify the type of corals at the end of the tour!

Corals were not the only marine life that can be found in our marina. One Member spotted a worm-like creature in the waters, which turned out to be an Amphinomidae (fire worm), and they also saw a small crab swimming around the nursery frame. An interesting fact about corals that they had learnt during the tour is that corals can grow up to 2cm per year!

Besides seeing the corals, Members were brought to see our Seabin in action and were amazed at how much rubbish it picks up from our marina. Did you know that our Seabin has collected more than 9,360kg of litter since its installation in 2019?

QUIZ & WIN MACHINE

After reading through the exhibition panels around our Clubhouse, Members and guests are able to quiz themselves and stand a chance to win exclusive ONE°15 merchandise. We are thrilled to announce that more than 500 Members and guests participated and won prizes! Besides the merchandise, we hope that everyone had fun and enjoyed putting their knowledge to the test, and in turn, would spread awareness to family and friends.

Besides exhibitions and quizzes, we also reached out to our community on Facebook and Instagram by sharing with them green tips, boating tips and ONE°15 eco-initiatives. Within the month, we also hosted 4 giveaways with prizes including a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne, a dim sum lunch buffet for two, a one-night stay in the Hillview room and a one-night stay in the Marina View room. Garnering over 600 participants, we are happy to see that many could identify what the eco-initiatives are and how these small efforts allow us to be better stewards of our Earth.

Thank you to all Members and guests who had participated in the ONE°15 Eco Month, and we hope that you have enjoyed learning on how we can keep our oceans blue.
